“The experience I have gained with patent and trademark law [through the Intellectual, Property, and Communications program] is immediately paying off outside of law school with my internships and summer associate positions. It has given me a leg up on every law student I have worked with in those positions.”

What is your experience with MSU Law?
Every professor I’ve met is an amazing educator, and proficient in the area of law they teach. Professors are open to provide assistance with studying, or talk about a student’s life. The large number who are also current practicing attorneys gives students a real-life perspective.

Describe your relationship with fellow classmates and faculty.
As an older student, I was concerned with connecting with my classmates. However, regardless of how old, different, or what year, every student is willing to help. Also, when I interacted with a professor, it felt like talking with a colleague in the field. It increases confidence, and is good practice for dealing with colleagues during internships and summer associate positions.

Describe your experience in the Geoffrey Fieger Trial Practice Institute (TPI) program and in the Intellectual Property, Information & Communications Law (IPIC) program.
The experience I have gained with patent and trademark law is immediately paying off outside of law school with my internships and summer associate positions. An ability to dissect patents and write effectively on complex technical fields of science is something a firm values. The TPI program has also made me a better writer and litigator. I gained experience with drafting complaints, answers, replies, deposition summaries, interrogatories, and other trial preparation documents. It has given me a leg up on every law student I have worked with at my internships and summer associate positions.

Tell us about your involvement in the Michigan State Law Review, Intellectual Property Clinic, and the Intellectual Property Legal Society. How have these contributed to your education or employment?
Law Review allows me to improve my legal writing skills, and interact with some of the smartest legal minds in the country. I completed a law review paper and am submitting it to journals around the country. Working at the IP clinic was a phenomenal opportunity to help small businesses with patent, trademark, and copyright issues.

What does the MSU name mean for your education?
Michigan State’s name is well known through the world. Being from an institution with a great reputation gives every graduate an edge towards a job.

What is your advice for prospective students?
Get involved in as many activities and experiences at the Law College as you can. While grades are important, experiencing different aspects of law is key in maximizing your law school time and building relationships with legal colleagues.
